Useful tips and guides for private accommodation providers

The three most common mistakes accommodation providers make in 2021

The new year 2021 places great challenges before us. Changes are happening in every area, including the way we communicate. Since many people work from home and social contact has been reduced, more than ever before, guests will rely on the information they get through internet searches.

Therefore, it is crucial that every private host in 2021 has a strong online presence.

1. They are not present on social media

One of the ways private hosts are expected to make use of this situation in 2021 is by having a stronger presence on social media. Since people have reduced their movement, and some are even confined to their homes, they usually spend a lot of time on social media.

Hosts who use Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and similar platforms can certainly expect to receive accommodation booking inquiries through their social media profiles. Does that mean you should now delete your profile on Booking.com, Airbnb, or your website? Absolutely not! This leads us to the second mistake that hosts in Croatia make – they are present on only one sales channel and have a profile on only one platform.

2. They are present on only one sales channel

Being present on multiple channels sets you apart from the competition and helps you build a strong online brand for your property. We call this sales approach omnichannel sales, and we also talked about it in our previous webinar. If you missed the webinar, you can watch it here. Being present on multiple online channels can only increase your visibility and help you, as a private host, achieve faster bookings.

Omnichannel has become the standard in such a way that today guests expect you to have profiles on various online agencies, your own website, and a social media profile. That is exactly how the omnichannel approach emerged – as a response to user behavior on the internet.

Providing an experience through the omnichannel approach requires a change in mindset. Too many private hosts get stuck when creating texts, descriptions, and photographs for a specific channel. As a result, they use completely different names and communication styles for each channel or agency. Unfortunately, this is seen far too often in Croatia. Instead, adopting an omnichannel approach allows you to provide an authentic guest experience regardless of the channel on which you present yourself.

3. They do not refresh the content of their profiles

The third mistake is in some way connected to the first, and that is the lack of activity on social media, in newsletters, or on the website. Given that your guests today spend more time online than ever before and search for your property beyond the profile on an agency site, refreshing your photos, adding new content, or publishing a video of your property can spark your guest’s interest.

For example, a guest may have searched for you on Booking.com, then perhaps opened your own website, then found you on Facebook, and finally followed you on Instagram. There is a strong possibility that after some time, a new photo, video, or newsletter will trigger a reaction from the guest and result in a booking for your property.
