It all began in the autumn of 2009, with a simple idea and the registration of the domain apartmanica.com. Today, 17 years later, we're looking back at where it all started, how far we've come and everything that has shaped Apartmanica into what it is today.
Let's go back to the autumn of 2009
Today, it's hard to imagine running a holiday rental business without the internet, online bookings and digital tools. But back in 2009, things looked very different.
That autumn, an idea emerged: to create a tool that would allow private holiday rental owners to easily build their own websites and showcase their accommodation to potential guests.
On October 13, 2009, we registered the domain apartmanica.com.
It was a small but important first step. At the time, no one could have known exactly what that idea would become or just how much would change in the years ahead.
From an idea to a real product
Having an idea is one thing. Turning it into a product that people use every day is something else entirely.
It took time, development, testing and countless adjustments. Apartmanica officially launched in 2016, and its development continued alongside changes in how holiday rental owners manage their properties and communicate with guests.
What started as an idea for making website creation easier gradually grew into something much bigger.
Today, in addition to providing their own websites, Apartmanica offers holiday rental owners tools for managing bookings, availability calendars, guest communication, invoicing, online guest registration and many other day-to-day tasks.
Since 2022, Apartmanica has operated as part of Play Digital, a company based in Pazin, Croatia, where we continue to develop new features and improve existing ones.
More than 3,000 properties, each with its own story
Today, Apartmanica is used for more than 3,000 apartments and holiday homes.
Behind that number are many different people and their stories. Some rent out a single apartment, others manage several holiday homes, and for some, holiday rentals have become their full-time business.
We're particularly happy to have customers who have been with us for years, while new ones continue to join us every day.
Their questions, suggestions, compliments and even criticism play an important role in shaping Apartmanica. It's our daily contact with holiday rental owners that helps us understand what they really need.
Seventeen years later, we're still building new ideas
Technology has changed completely since 2009. Guest habits, the way holiday accommodation is marketed, online payment options and even the legal obligations of rental owners have all evolved.
Apartmanica has evolved too.
But the original idea remains the same: to make life easier for private holiday rental owners and give them the tools to independently manage their properties and direct bookings.
Even after 17 years, we still have plenty of plans and new ideas we're excited to bring to life.
Today, we treated ourselves to a little celebration!
Our 17th birthday was a good excuse to step away from our screens for a moment, get together and enjoy a little celebration.
Because as much as we love developing new features and solving everyday challenges, it's nice to occasionally look back and appreciate just how far we've come since that first idea in 2009.
